requesting specific skills set: Anxiety coping skill

Posted in Group:

Hi, I seek some specific skills/coping strategies when I feel anxious. Example, today, a multitude of thoughts were regarding future anticipated therapy. Situational life stresses, just being ill with a head cold, and nonspecific worry. At the crux, I've not started any therapy yet. I'm no longer on any medications. I am experiencing worry, fear, and uncertainty, and I am just not sure how to cope. I am coping to say the least. I do feel and acknowledge all of the aforementioned, I've made a few phone calls in an attempt to alleviate the discomfort. Talking with my niece helped. I took from our conversation some perspective and a few more tools. Ideally, I seek some type of coping strategy that is along the lines of "self talk"... I think if I can find an anchor, an emotional or logical viewpoint, upon which to validate and hopefully experience my discomfort with some ease, when I am feeling a off kilter, this would of course be of great use to me. Please, I ask that any responses be sincerely tried, used regularly, experienced.

Thanks

Maybe this sounds silly, but when I feel maximum stress levels I go sit in front of a playground and watch children play or go to a hospital and look at the new babies. I think the worst thing you can do is to focus on yourself. Focus on others that have what you want, serenity. Children have this amazing sense of self. They live in the moment. Some people aren't kid people. You can also go to a shelter and pet and animal. Good luck! (oha nd look into yoga... its pretty cool stuff) : )

I find that the best way to cope with my anxiety is to write it all down. Journaling is a great way to get all the fear and stress out of your system. I also like to write things on a piece of paper and then rip it up....its like tossing out all those negative feelings.
hope this helps
