My anxiety stops me from eating? and I think im getting really ill

Posted in Group:

I have found lately as my anxiety symptoms worsen that I am terrified of food, I am scared of choking I am scared of throwing up I just get this overwhelming sense of fear that eating anything at all is going to some how kill me. I need to move past this otherwise it really will kill me. Any thoughts on how to come at this without sending myself into a total panic over a sandwich?

Would you classify this as a side effect of your anxiety or an eating disorder? Either way I think you would benefit greatly from therapy. Therapy will help you deal with your anxiety and help you learn tools to control it. This in turn will hopefully help you overcome whatever issue is affecting your inability to eat without fear.

Wishing you better days ahead.

Just an update, my eating seems to have settled and I have eaten two full meals in the last two days and I feel much better for it. I know I can and should eat more but something is better then the nothing I was able to eat before so things are looking a little bit up for me. Thanks for the response CK it made me think about what was holding me back and helped me take a few steps forward its all about baby steps right. Much Love

That is what I am hoping for, I think starting back on my lexpro has helped a lot even though I have only just hit a full week of taking them. Perhaps just knowing that I will feel better has lowered my anxiety about feeling crazy. With my lessened stress about my GAD and Panic disorder I am feeling a lot more open and calm about the very basic everyday things that I didn't feel strong enough to handle. Thank you for the support just a few kind words can go a long way.
