Low estrogen or anxiety?

Posted in Group:

I had a complete hysterectomy in 1982 and have been on estrogen since.

I have also had an anxiety disorder for years. I was on zoloft then lexapro for almost 20 years. I went off of it with a drs help three months ago. It was making me very tired and didn't help my anxiety.

Anyway, I have been having hot/cold spells, anxiety, irritability, neck tightness, dry skin, and stomach upset. Sometimes I wake up hot/cold an sometimes it happens during the day.
I went to a gynec0logist who specializes in menopause only.
She tested my hormone levels including thyroid and said my estrogen level is very low. She is trying to balance my estrogen.

I would like to know if anyone else has had my symptoms and if they can be caused by low hormones. Also, can they still persist after all these years?

My family dr doesn't know if it's hormonal or anxiety related. I am so confused.

It is very hard to decipher how medicine affects our system, also low hormone level has its role on our body too. Of course, you get worried and that is why you feel all of this side effect. Menopause sometimes goes for many years. Wishing you health and happiness. God bless you.

I have had a history of anxiety since my early 30's I refuse to take the antianxiety meds (im a nurse and know that just "cover" up the problem and never fix it also they make me more anxious when coming down off them) I've taken antidepressants too, and it just took the edge off plus I am one that can't take meds well....give me bad reactions. So I really haven't taken meds of any kind for years and was coping fine. So this being said, when I suddenly started having panic attacks and high anxiety four years ago...along with being unable to tolerate heat and at that time the dr and I had no idea I was in "perimenopause" until about a year ago when I started having all the other symptoms. I was tested and yes I was going through menopause. I am 47 haven't had a period in almost 6 months. My Dr sent me to a counselor (we do EMDR and it helps tremendously!!) and a compounding pharmacist. I take bioidentical progesterone a little estrogen and dhea. It took about 4 weeks just like he said but the anxiety lifted!! No more panic attacks!! It's amazing. I still get a little anxious depending on my hormone flucuations but it's controlable. Please look into this!! The progesterone is the "calming" hormone. I pray blessing of help health and relief for you!!
